Top Tips When Going On Casting Calls For Teenagers

By Dianne Crane

The following tips on casting calls for teenagers will hopefully help any teen trying to get a job. Often teens do not have as much experience as some who are older would have. Having some helpful information before they head into an audition is always useful.

Be wary of scam artists. If something does not feel right listen to your instinct and good judgment. If ever you are asked to sign something that feels wrong, do not sign. If ever you are asked to pay money for new pictures through a certain photographer or take lessons from a certain coach, walk away.

A good rule to have is if something makes you feel uneasy, stop and think about why. Once you take some time to think, you will usually figure out what it is that is making you feel leery. Often your instincts are correct. If it feels wrong, leave and do not look back.

Another question that is asked frequently is how to prepare. You can do this by researching everything you can about the project and the director. Know the director's style. Go over what you will be reading. Practice several times, keep at it until you feel flawless.

Be professional. It does not matter what your age is. You must be polite, respectful and a pro throughout the entire process. You may not like something that is said, but you should never curse or be disrespectful. Even though you are a teen, you are expected to behave as an adult. If you fail to so, it could hurt your career for a long time. Anyone who was witness to your poor behavior will remember it. This may come back to haunt you down the road when someone from this audition is at another one and remembers you.

Take along a couple of head shot photographs and your resume. Your photos should be professionally done. This is not the area where you should try to save money. If one is determined to get into this business, the will have to have professional pictures and a good resume.

Be flexible and deal with whatever is thrown at you. At times you may be asked to change up the way you read something, or to even try reading for a different character, do it. Not only should you do it, but it should be done without complaint. Never ask for or expect a break. Keep working until you are told you are done.

Two final bits of advice for going on casting calls for teenagers is to do your best to relax and be confident. The process can be intimidating and at times overwhelming, however, remember that everyone else is feeling the same way. The more of these that you go on, the easier it will seem. Lastly, do not let yourself feel rejected if you are not given the role. No one can be right for everything. It is not personal.
